Starter film

One customer, saying it worked.

Half a day, one operator, one film. It is the second film on the list and the highest-returning one there is — and it is the one most companies put off longest because they are waiting to afford the fourth.

Why this one

You saying you’re good is marketing. A customer saying it is evidence.

Pound for pound this is the highest-returning film there is, and it stays that way for the life of the company. You saying you're good is marketing. A customer saying it is evidence. At this stage one honest proof film will out-earn a beautiful brand film by a distance.

The test: does it contain a figure, or at least a clear before and after?

What you get

A fixed price, and a list that doesn’t move.

£1,450

Half a day, one operator

Starter film

One film, usually the proof film — number two on the list.

Included

  • A planning call first, so the questions are agreed before we arrive
  • Up to four hours on site, our camera, lights and sound
  • One film up to 90 seconds, plus vertical and square cutdowns
  • Subtitled, and one round of changes
  • Delivered in 10 working days

Your part

  • Pick the customer. One who will say a number out loud.
  • Get them to agree to half an hour, somewhere quiet.
  • Send us anything that helps us ask better questions.
  • Name one person who approves the cut.

Run by us, never subcontracted. The person on the planning call is the person who turns up.

Jack is extremely professional, and puts 100% effort into every project we've collaborated on. He was able to deliver a professional video product, which was exactly what was required of the marketing campaign.

What actually makes it good

The hard part isn’t the camera. It’s the interview.

Getting a real person to describe a specific change, with a number in it, instead of a paragraph of adjectives. That is the whole job, and most of it happens before anyone films anything. Here is how we run it, so you know what to expect on the day.

  • Send the questions in advance. Don't send the answers, and don't let anyone write a script for a person who isn't an actor.
  • Ask the question, then say nothing. The three seconds after someone thinks they've finished is where the usable line lives.
  • Ask them to answer in full sentences that absorb the question, so the film works without you in it.
  • Three takes, use the third. The first is nerves, the second is over-corrected.
  • Tell people what to wear the day before: no thin stripes, no logos, nothing brand new and white. Have water and a mirror on hand.

All of it is written out in the guide — including how to do this yourself if you would rather.

The honest bit

This is the £1,500-shaped product, and we’d rather say so.

Our own guide is rude about £1,500 quotes, so it would be strange not to address it. A cheap quote is a real product with specific things removed — one person doing several jobs, no pre-production, one take of everything, and no producer when the day overruns. That is frequently the correct purchase, and this is our version of it, with the planning call, the versions, the subtitles and a round of changes put back in because leaving them out is where those jobs usually come unstuck.

What it is not:

  • The film on your homepage that has to work on somebody who has never heard of you. That is a brand film, it needs a crew and a point of view, and it starts around £9,500.
  • Anything needing multiple locations, cast, or a day that runs long. Half a day is half a day.
  • A film nobody has decided the purpose of. We will say so on the call rather than take the booking.

The question is never is this expensive. It’s what is this film’s job, and what does it cost us if it doesn’t do it. If the answer makes this the wrong purchase, we will tell you on the call.
