Every film in this body of work
The brief
This one is not a commission. Over six years we developed Hope Winter as an artist and released her music on our own label — the recordings, the artwork, the press kits, the crowdfunding campaign, and a run of live cover performances for her YouTube channel. The films were made because the artist needed them, and this is where the camera work on the rest of this site was learned.
What we ran
Live music is the one thing here you cannot ask for again. A song in a church or a back room happens once, at the tempo the room gives you, and the take you get is the take there is — so these were shot as performances rather than staged as videos. The venues did the work a set would otherwise have to: a Victorian church, a pub back room, a library. That means taking the acoustic and the available light as the brief rather than as the obstacle, and being small enough not to change the room by being in it. Every event and music job on this site runs on what those evenings taught.

Result
The campaign film is the one with a pass or fail attached: the EP it was made to pay for exists. The artist has since gone her own way and taken the videos down from her own channel, which is how these things end and no reflection on them. Three survive here. They are the oldest work on this site and the reason for the rest of it.
The creative stays yours. The production becomes ours.
